The Bombers honored their fathers and delighted fans on Monday night, as they beat the league leading Coppell Copperheads 4-2. The win was the team's 3rd straight, and 7th in their last 8 games, and puts them just 2 games behind the Copperheads for first place in the Texas Collegiate League.
The team was led again thanks to an outstanding effort on the mound. Michael Hilliard pitched 8 strong innings for the Bombers, allowing just 7 total base-runners and striking out 6. An error allowed the Copperheads to score twice in the 8th inning, but closer Garrett Shepperd slammed the door on them to seal the win for the Bombers in the 9th inning and record his 4th save.
Head Coach Brent Alumbaugh said that the team is being carried by [their] starting pitching and defense, but also noted that the offense is beginning to come around. The team was able to capitalize on a pair of errors by Copperheads in the 3rd inning, where the Bombers scored all 4 of their runs. The situational hitting will be key as the team continues to make their ascent to the top of the TCL standings.
The team wraps up their series with Copperheads Tuesday night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark. The game will be Cars Night at the ballpark, featuring a giveaway of cars from the new Pixar movie, Cars 2, and movie tickets to see the film thanks to Aamco Transmissions and Total Car Care. The team then goes on the road until next Monday, where fans are thrilled about the UPA Kids Zone being 100% FREE to all kids in attendance. For more information go to BVBombers.com
