The Bombers' veteran-laden squad kicked off the season in a similar fashion to their 2010 season, notching a come from behind 11-8 win over the Coppell Copperheads. The Copperheads raced out to a 5-0 lead through the fifth inning, and then Comeback Kids version 2.0 went to work, using a pair of two-out rallies to put up 11 runs in just three innings. Though Coppell battled back in the late innings, the Bombers' bats proved to be too much for them on this Opening Day game.
Individual performances were highlighted by catcher John Cannon, a third-year Bomber and fan favorite, went 3-4 with a pair of runs scored. Stevyn Rivera went 2-4 in which both hits were doubles, and Michael Hilliard struck out four batters on his way to a two-inning save.
The Bombers will wrap up their season-opening series with the Copperheads Thursday night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark, before heading to Alexandria to take on the Aces for the weekend series. Thursday night fans will enjoy their first Thirsty Thursday of the season, and bobbleheads of Alan from the new movie The Hangover 2 will be given to the first 100 fans in the ballpark.
