Bombers Hang on for Wild Win Over Generals

Bryan-College Station, TX (July 31, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers escaped with a win over the Victoria Generals Monday night, 7-6 in front of over 1500 fans on Pirate Night. With the victory tonight, Brian Borski set a new Texas Collegiate League record for wins in a season with eight!

The Bombers struck first, plating four in the second. Jacob House reached on a single and advanced to second on an error before Greg Olson did the same, scoring House. After a Cameron Dullnig sacrifice bunt Josh McElroy and John Cannon walked to load the bases for Isaac Nuti. Nuti roped a single, scoring Olson and McElroy pushing the Bombers ahead 4-0.

The Generals responded with one in the third, but the Bombers added two more as House and Olson scored again on a John Cannon RBI single and an error by the left fielder, giving the Bombers a 6-1 advantage. While the Bombers were heard in check, the Generals kept chipping away, scoring one in the fourth, sixth, and eighth to pull within one at 6-5.

In the bottom of the eighth the Bombers got the bases loaded with one out before Wes Patterson scored Morgan Mickan on a sacrifice fly, earning the Bombers single season record for RBI’s with 24 and pushing the Bombers ahead 7-5. The Generals again fought back, scoring one in the top of the ninth, making the score 7-6. With two outs and runners on first and second the Generals leading hitter Jeremy Marek came to the plate and grounded one to the second baseman Dullnig. With no one covering first, closer Matt Passauer sprinted to the bag and dove for the toss from Dullnig, landing on the bag as Marek arrived to get the final out.

The Bombers travel to the Metroplex tomorrow for games against the McKinney Marshals and North Texas Copperheads before returning home for the last home stand of the season. The first game of that series will be the last Fireworks Friday of the season as well as Aggie Night presented by Brazos Valley Bank with Dat Nguyen bobbleheads!
