Victoria, TX (July 13, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers defeated the Victoria Generals 5-1 Tuesday night on the strength of solid pitching and hitting, as well as some help from the Generals defense. With the win the Bombers reclaim first place in the Texas Collegiate League standings.
The Bombers jumped out to an early lead in the first with and RBI single by Ryan Morrow and an RBI groundout by Tanner Toal for a 2-0 lead. The Generals responded in the second with a leadoff home run, making the score 2-1, but Mitchell Pitts shut the Generals down after that, allowing only three more hits and no runs.
The Bombers added one more in the fourth on a Rodarrick Jones RBI single, one in the sixth on a Toal RBI single, and one in the seventh on an error by the second baseman, one of four errors by the Generals on the evening. Relievers Blake Fonfara, Lucas Garza, and Matt Passauer combined to close the door after the seventh, securing the 5-1 victory for the Bombers.
The Bombers will play the East Texas Pump Jacks in Kilgore tomorrow night before facing the Alexandra Aces on Thursday night to finish up their long road trip.
