Bombers Lose a Heartbreaker in Alexandria

Alexandria, LA (June 8, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers lost a heartbreaker to the Alexandria Aces 1-0 due to an unearned run in the second inning. Levi Saenz went the distance for the Bombers, holding the Aces to three hits over eight innings of work but is on the hook for a tough loss, due to an unearned run. The lefty used only 74 pitches in a game that lasted two hours and twenty minutes.

The turning point of the evening came on an easy ground ball in the second frame. Aces batter Matt Holsman hit a grounder that squirted between Michael Flores’ legs, allowing him to reach base. Shane Ardoin followed the play with a double to center field past the outstretched arm of Rodarrick Jones, scoring Holsman. That run gave the Aces all the offense they would need.

Aces’ starter Benjamin Suit also shut down the Bombers bats for the evening. Suit went six and one third innings of three hit ball, striking out seven Bombers. Isaac Nuti and Josh McElroy combined for all four Bombers hits on the night, each having two hits. The Bombers had men on base in all but three innings and runners in scoring position four times, but were unable to capitalize.

In the second, fourth, and fifth, the Bombers first two batters reached base, but each time were left stranded. Aces’ reliever David Mooney worked two thirds inning of scoreless ball before the closer Trevor Stennett came in for the ninth. The submariner struck out two of the three batters he faced to end the game.

The Bombers will be looking for revenge tomorrow evening in Alexandria as they square off with the Aces again. The team is now 1-3 on the young season, the three losses coming on a combined total of 4 runs. Brian Borski will get the start for the Bombers tomorrow night.
