Joaquin Hinojosa was named the top reliever in the Texas Collegiate League today, after his dominating season as the closer of the Brazos Valley Bombers.
It was the second consecutive season in which a Bombers pitcher was named Reliever of the Year. Last summer, Dustin Rasco was named to the All-League team after tying the TCL Record with nine saves.
The sophomore out of Texarkana Junior College finished the season with a 2-1 record and six saves in 13 appearances without giving up an earned run all season long. In 16 innings of work, he allowed just eight hits and struck out 27, while limiting opposing hitters to a .143 batting average.
Hinojosa all put his vast array of skills on display at the plate, where he tied for the league-lead with four home runs. He also had a .295 batting average a .508 slugging percentage.
This past season at Texarkana, Hinojosa hit .404 with six doubles, seven home runs, 36 runs scored and 35 RBI in leading his team to a Region 14 Eastern Zone conference title.
Hinojosa will be transferring to Texas A&M University for the upcoming year, where he expects to contribute immediately.
