Future Bombers Continue Strong Showings

Players that will make up the Bombers inaugural season roster continued to show why Brazos Valley fans are excited about the coming season. From fields in South Carolina to right here in our backyard, future Bombers were making their presence known.

Hot-hitting outfielder Michael Wright and his Notre Dame Fighting Irish visited Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for Coast Carolina’s “Baseball at the Beach” tournament. Wright opened the weekend with a 2-for-4 showing against North Carolina-Wilmington, on his way to going 3-for-10 for the tournament. Wright added a pair of stolen bases as the Irish helped knock Texas Christian University out of the top 25, then dropped the finale to a CCU squad that is now ranked 22nd in the country.

Wright’s competition paled in comparison to that of Hunter Carnevale, whose Pacific Tigers took the hill Saturday at number 2-ranked Clemson. Despite a gutty performance, over six innings, Carnevale dropped his second decision of the season, 5-4. The freshman continues to lead the staff in wins with a 2-2 record, posting a solid 3.63 ERA.

Here at home, the Aggies continue to roll, sweeping a weekend series against Jacksonville State to move up to number 19 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s rankings. First baseman Darby Brown helped pace A&M in Sunday’s 12-0 whitewash, going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a pair of runs scored. Daman Aaron also saw action on Sunday, pinch-hitting during the Aggies six-run seventh inning. Aaron’s keen eye proved valuable, earning a walk that pushed across another A&M run. Third baseman Josey Parker saw his first action of the season, going 1-for-6 with an RBI. His fourth-inning double on Saturday posted the Aggies first run of the game to kick off their comeback win. The performance was very encouraging for Parker, who made his A&M debut after a shoulder injury last fall.

Bombers head coach Kevin Moulder, who is currently an assistant with Central Missouri, also enjoyed a successful week. His Mules squad swept a doubleheader from Winona State, surrendering just two earned runs while striking out 26. The performance dropped the team ERA to an astounding 1.89 and helped Central Missouri climb to number 11 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Division II rankings.
