The road trip did not begin as planned, as the East Texas Pump Jacks narrowly defeated the Brazos Valley Bombers 3-1. The Pump Jacks pitching staff held the Bombers’ hitters in check, as they were only able to manage four hits in the game.
Drew Flaniken’s bid to tie the Bombers team-record of five wins did not come to fruition, as the Bombers were unable to provide run support for the hurler from Tennessee-Martin. Flaniken, who came into the game with a 4-1 record, pitched seven solid innings while allowing just seven hits and three runs.
The Bombers cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning and seemed to be on their way toward another rally, but Pump Jacks’ pitcher Cam Sokalski did not allow the Bombers to come any closer.
The Bombers dropped to 15-13 with the loss, while the Pump Jacks (17-11) added one game to their lead over the Bombers in the standings. Brazos Valley will try to exact revenge on East Texas tomorrow in the series finale at Driller Park.
