The Brazos Valley Bombers continued their winning ways, as they used 14 hits to defeat the Coppell Copperheads 11-4. The Bombers improved to 15-11 with the win and will look to earn a sweep over the Copperheads tomorrow on Monday Feast night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.
The Bombers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Cliff Vaughn, last night’s extra innings hero, highlighted the surge with a two-RBI double to score Joe Craven and Nick Anders. The Bombers scored three more in the fourth to break the game wide open, and totaled three more before the game was over.
The Bombers got at least one hit from everyone in the lineup tonight, including multiple hits from Wes Schill, Brett Parsons, Casey Dykes and Clifton Thomas. Schill also had two runs scored and three RBI for the Bombers, who fell just two runs short of tying their all-time record, which was set on June 11, 2007 against the Wichita Falls Roughnecks.
Mitchell Pitts was superb on the mound for Brazos Valley and picked up the win to improve to 4-1 on the season, tying Drew Flaniken for the team lead. Both pitchers will have an opportunity to make a run at former Bomber Jason Zylstra’s team-record of five wins, which was set last season.
