The Brazos Valley Bombers came up on the short end of the stick in a pitcher’s duel tonight in Coppell, losing in extra innings by a score of 2-1. The Bombers tied the game at one in the ninth inning, only to see Coppell score the winning run an inning later on Austin Goolsby’s walk-off single.
Jake Liedka battled against Coppell’s Don Williams for six scoreless innings, with both pitchers only giving up a hit apiece. Liedka, who struck out nine hitters, finally cracked in the bottom of the eighth inning to allow the first run of the game, as Colby Smith scored on a wild pitch.
The Bombers only managed two hits in the game, both by Robby Graham, but still managed to tie the game in the ninth inning as Casey Dykes also scored on a two-out wild pitch from Copperheads pitcher Nathan Karns.
Goolsby’s RBI single in the tenth came off Bombers pitcher Brian Watson (0-3), who has pitched magnificently all season, but been a victim of poor run support in each of his three losses.
The Bombers will travel to McKinney tomorrow to try to exact some revenge on the Marshals, who won two in a row at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark last week.
