The Brazos Valley Bombers got their bats going early and often, as they defeated the East Texas Pump Jacks 8-3. Immediately following the game, the crowd was treated to a live a performance by famed singer Granger Smith.
The Bombers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but quickly reclaimed the lead in the second inning, as they used five singles to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead. The Bombers slowly but surely expanded their lead throughout the rest of the game to go on to an 8-3 win.
The Bombers got a hit from everyone in the lineup as they exploded for a season-high 14 hits. Clifton Thomas, Casey Dykes, Nick Anders, Drew Mason and Wes Schill all had multiple hits for the Bombers, who improved to 12-9 on the season with the win.
Mitchell Pitts enjoyed his best outing of the season, as he improved to 3-1 on the summer. He struck out eight in as many innings and allowed just six hits and one earned run, keeping the Pump Jack hitters off balance all game.
In addition to the festivities surrounding the Granger Smith concert, today’s game was also the first Saturday Giveaways day of the season, as 300 lucky fans came home with Bombers pennants and American flags.
The Bombers will be traveling to Coppell tomorrow and McKinney Monday, before getting a three day break next week. The team will then resume play against the Victoria Generals on Fireworks Friday in the first of a four game home stand.
