Brazos Valley Bombers center fielder Clifton Thomas was named Texas Collegiate League Player of the Week after he hit. 500 and led the Bombers to a perfect 3-0 week. The Bombers swept the East Texas Pump Jacks and pulled into a tie for first place with the Pump Jacks.
Thomas was 7-for-14 on the week with two doubles and two triples, good enough for a scintillating .929 slugging percentage. He also scored four runs and batted in another for the Bombers, who totaled 17 runs in the three games.
The junior outfielder from Texas A&M Kingsville raised his batting average up to .256 for the season and is third on the team with 17 total bases, despite missing seven games with a broken pinkie. Although he has only played in 10 games this season, he has already tied the Bombers’ all-time single season record with two triples.
