Box Score
The game between the Brazos Valley Bombers and Coppell Copperheads tonight was a nail biter down to the last pitch, but the Brazos Valley Bombers shut out the Copperheads for a 1-0 win. The Bombers’ pitching staff turned in their best performance of the season, as Jake Liedka, Brian Watson and Joaquin Hinojosa combined to allow just two hits in the victory.
The game was a pitcher’s duel throughout, as Jake Liedka and Don Williams each pitched seven scoreless innings for their respective teams. Liedka, making his first start of the season, allowed just one hit and struck out three in the contest. It seemed as though neither team would be able to muster any runs, until the Bombers broke the ice in the top of the eighth inning.
Robby Graham finally gave the Bombers life, as he led off the eighth inning against Marco Simmons with a triple off the center field wall. John Cannon followed up Graham’s hit with a single to left field to collect the first RBI of the game.
With the lead finally intact, Watson pitched a perfect eighth inning and Hinojosa closed out the game in the ninth inning to collect his third save of the season.
Liedka picked up the win as the Bombers improved to 8-5 on the season. The Bombers will try to sweep the Copperheads tomorrow before returning home to the Brazos Valley Monday to host the U.S. Military All-Stars on Monday Feast, which will include $0.50 hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks.
