The Brazos Valley Bombers’ star slugger Danny Hernandez signed with the Cincinnati Reds today and will be heading off to the Florida State League to play for the Sarasota Reds, Cincinnati’s Rookie-A affiliate.
Hernandez had entrenched himself as a fan-favorite the past two seasons with Brazos Valley, after joining the team in mid-season last summer. He hit a team-high .333 in 15 games, with eight RBI and 10 runs for the Bombers as they made their second-half surge into the playoffs.
This past spring at San Jacinto Junior College, he hit .355 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI while leading the Gators to a 45-11 record and the Junior College World Series. He was even more impressive in conference play, hitting .443 with seven home runs as the Gators compiled an incredible 24-3 record.
He has been a vital cog in the Bombers lineup so far this summer, hitting .267 with a team-high 14 total bases, a home run and a .467 slugging percentage in leading them to a 7-4 start.
Hernandez will be missed by the Bombers, but the team wishes him well as he continues on in his baseball career with the Reds.
