Coming off of three straight wins to finish out their home stand, the Bombers went to East Texas hoping to extend the win streak and earn their first road win. Nine innings later, the Bombers did just that, defeating the Pumpjacks by a score of 4-3.

The game looked to be a pitcher’s duel early on, as the Bombers’ Andrew Velez and the Pumpjacks’ Jamie Niley put goose eggs on the board for the first four innings. The Bombers finally got things going in the fifth inning, as Wes Schill hit a two-RBI single, scoring Robby Graham and John Cannon to give the Bombers the 2-0 lead. Brazos Valley tacked on two more in the seventh to stretch the lead to 4-0 on Joe Craven’s RBI double to the right field gap.

East Texas promptly cut the lead in half the following inning before scoring another in the eighth to make the score 4-3. With a runner in scoring position and two outs in the eighth inning, Bombers coach Brent Alumbaugh inserted closer Joaquin Hinojosa into the game to get out of the jam. Hinojosa got Greg Fontenot to ground back to him and got out of the inning with lead intact. Hinojosa, who homered last night, retired the Pumpjacks in order in the ninth to collect his first save of the season.

With the win, the Bombers improved to 4-3 and will look to sweep East Texas with a win tomorrow. The Bombers will return home against the expansion Victoria Generals on Cashback Tuesday.
