The Bombers put up a battle, but ended up on the short end of the stick tonight in Coppell, as they fell to the Copperheads 4-1. Chez Angeloni was in the zone for Coppell, giving up only three hits and one run in seven innings, while striking out seven.
The Copperheads jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning as Runey Davis scored on Todd Emr’s sacrifice fly and Jimmy Pharr hit his first of two solo home runs. The Bombers finally got things going in the seventh inning, as they loaded the bases, but were only able to manufacture one run. With only one out, Tyler Huelsing hit a sharp groundball that the Copperheads turned into a double play to end the inning.
The Copperheads extended their lead to 4-1 in the eighth inning after Pharr hit his second home run and never looked back. Zach Neal and David De Le Chappelle then pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to secure the win for the Copperheads. With the loss, the Bombers dropped two games in the standings to 4-5 on the year. They will face Coppell in a rematch tomorrow as Shaun Siebert will get the start for the Bombers.
