Cunningham, Zylstra help Jacksonville State win 2 out of 3
Todd Cunningham snapped out of his recent slump in a big way, collecting six hits and scoring five runs last weekend, as Jacksonville State won two of three against Austin Peay. On Friday in a 7-6 win, Cunningham was 3-for-6, with a double, an RBI, and he also scored two runs. His teammate Jason Zylstra was just as dominant, striking out four in 4.1 innings and only allowing one run in relief appearance. The next day, Cunningham was perfect at the plate, reaching base all five times he came up to the plate. In a 19-7 win, he was 3-for-3, was hit by a pitch, walked, hit a home run, scored three runs, and batted in three runs.
McNeese State loses 2 of 3 despite efforts of Davis and Landry
Tyler Davis pitched brilliantly Friday, striking out seven and only allowing two earned runs in eight strong innings, but it was not enough as McNeese State fell to Southeastern Louisiana 4-2. Shon Landry, who was 1-for-3 at the plate, scored the Cowboys’ only two runs in the loss. The next day, Landry stole the show, going 4-for-5 with a walk, a double, and scored two runs as McNeese won a nail biter, 11-10. Landry was impressive again on Sunday, batting 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, but McNeese State’s pitchers couldn’t get the job done in a 17-11 loss.
