Bombers add a pair of stars

The Brazos Valley Bombers are shaping up to be one of the most talented and balanced teams in the Texas Collegiate League this summer and today the franchise gave opponents yet another reason to take notice.

Brazos Valley ’s future is looking even brighter as they announced today that University of New Orleans pitcher Jim McGonigle and McNeese State shortstop Shon Landry will be joining the Bombers for another summer collegiate league playoff run.

If the name McGonigle rings a bell of familiarity among Bomber fans, it might be because Jim’s older brother Mark starred for Brazos Valley last summer, leading the team with 41 hits and 23 RBI. Jim will look to continue in his older brother Mark’s footsteps as a superstar Bomber. Although he is still just a sophomore, he seems to be on the fast track to stardom after a dominating performance against Vermont last weekend. In seven innings, Jim allowed just three hits and no earned runs, while striking out a career high eight batters in a 9-2 win over Vermont University . Jim is no stranger to pitching in the TCL. Last year as a freshman, he went 2-4 for the Duncanville Deputies and posted a 2.90 ERA in 40 innings. He displays great control and command on the mound at his young age and may develop into one of the top pitchers in the TCL this summer.

Shon Landry is also a very important addition to this season’s squad. A teammate of Bomber pitcher and fan favorite, Tyler Davis, the junior shortstop has been on a tear lately. This past weekend he carried McNeese State ’s offense, going 6-for-13 with five runs scored, two homers, and nine RBI against Houston Baptist. Landry is known for his stellar defense, but his superb hitting along with his remarkable speed on the base paths makes him the complete player. Landry brings an impressive resume to the Bombers as well. In high school, he was a dual-sport athlete in football and baseball, where he was an all-state selection and district MVP in baseball. In his freshman year at McNeese State , Landry added freshman All-American honors after leading the Southland Conference with 24 stolen bases.

It will be an exciting season for the Bombers as they prepare for the upcoming season. Come and join the fun as you have a chance to see star players from all of over the country play in the TCL this summer. Season tickets may be purchased online at bvbombers.com, by phone at (979) 779-PLAY, or by visiting the Bombers offices at 405 Mitchell Street in Bryan .
