Bombers Eight-Inning Defensive Standoff Falls Short

BATON ROUGE, La. (June 15, 2021) — The Brazos Valley Bombers fell to the Baton Rouge Rougarou Wednesday night, 1-4, in the navy and gold’s first time being swept this summer.

The Bombers put on an impressive eight-inning defensive standoff, allowing zero runs throughout this time. However, a rough start in the first doomed Brazos Valley before they even had the chance to get going. The Bombers now set their sights on one more away game before returning home for the team’s second Fireworks Friday this summer.

In a first inning which mirrored the start of Tuesday’s game, the Rougarou struck first. Three hits and three errors allowed Baton Rouge to score four, giving the Louisiana team their highest leading margin against the Bombers all season.

The navy and gold’s one offensive bright spot came in the ninth inning. With two outs on the board, second baseman Daniel Altman managed to bring home catcher Ryan Snell for the team’s lone run of the evening.

Even in defeat, the Bombers bullpen saw some success. Led by Triston Dixon and Chriss Shull, with three strikeouts each, the Bombers retired 11 from the mound. In addition, the five pitchers allowed just one earned run throughout the entire game, with Rougarou’s other three coming on errors.

After Wednesday’s rematch, Brazos Valley falls to a 6-8 record while Baton Rouge moves to 4-6 on the season. The 2021 summer series between the two teams is now set at 2-2, with the next rematch scheduled for later this month.. Brazos Valley returns to action Thursday, June 17 for a one-game trip to Acadiana before heading back to Edible Field on Friday, June 18 to face off against the San Antonio Flying Chanclas. Friday’s Nurses Appreciation Night will see the celebration of essential medical workers in the Bryan-College Station community, topped off with an extravagant firework showcase at 9 p.m.
