Bombers Blank Cane Cutters on Crazy Animal Night

Bombers Blank Cane Cutters on Crazy Animal Night

Dontae Woodard deals six scoreless innings with 8K’s on the night

Bryan/College Station– July 21, 2019 - The Bombers pitching staff blanked the Cane Cutters striking out a combined 11 batters while holding the opposition to five hits. The Bombers offense was not quite as loud as it was last night as the Bombers hitters were only able to put up six hits scoring two runs. There was however quite a bit of action off the field as Franklin Safari was at Bomber’s Stadium with a few exotic animals for kids and families to interact with.

The Bombers got on the board first when the Texas A&M Aggie Hunter Coleman took a Nick Hill pitch deep to left to put the Bombers up one run. Hill would be the hard luck loser in the game with a solid outing going 5.1 innings giving up two earned runs on the night before giving way to Mathew Delcambre and Fisher Norris who held the Bombers scoreless over the final 2.2 frames.

The Bombers scored their second and final run of the ball game in the sixth inning as Bryant Shellenbarger led the inning off with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch as Hill’s day would come to an end. Acadiana’s biggest threat of scoring came in the third inning as Mazur lined a single to centerfield to start the inning, followed by an error from a Dontae Woodard as he tried to get the lead runner on a sacrifice bunt. Carr would then reach on a bunt single to load the bases with nobody out before Woodard got Champ Artigues to ground out back to him to set up a 1-2-3 double play. Woodard would then get a strikeout to end the scoring threat.

The Bombers pitching staff was dominant on the mound tonight led by Woodard who went six full innings striking out 8 batters. He gave way to Christian Vega who struck out two across his two frames of work before John Altman came in to finish the game out striking out one in the ninth.

The Bombers will look to extend their 18 inning scoreless streak as well as make it four straight wins as they take on the Cane Cutters again Monday night at 7:05. The Bombers will then hit the road to Victoria to take on the Generals in a two game road trip.
