Bombers Defense Holds Off Twins in 4-3 Road WinTexarkana, TX - June 22, 2019 – The Brazos Valley Bombers ended the Texarkana Twins’ three-game winning streak in a 4-3 contest Saturday night. The win enters the books as the first Bombers win of the season at George Dobson Field, having gone winless in Texarkana on June 12 and 13. Chase Kemp maintained a serious hitting streak with a leadoff single in the top of the second inning. Kemp became the first score of the game for the Bombers off an RBI from Jordan Yeatts to lead 1-0 early. The Bombers started Cannon Davis on the mound against a Twins team that had been unbeatable at George Dobson Field so far this season. The Twins threatened in the bottom of the third and were able to plate two to obtain their first lead of the game on an RBI single from Tom Lichty. Jake Terry got off to a hot start for the Twins as the starting pitcher by recording five strikeouts in the first three innings of play. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Terry was forced to work around loaded bases and did so unsuccessfully. The Twins pitcher walked Ridge Rogers to force one across and tie the game 2-2. On a red-hot hitting streak, Kemp crushed a home run over the center field fence in the fifth inning. The two-run homer plated Kemp and Kyle Bergeron to untie the game and give the Bombers a 4-2 lead. After the home run, the Twins sent Michael McElmeel to the mound to relieve Terry. Terry ended the day with 6 strikeouts, 7 hits and 4 earned runs in five innings. Lee Thomas drove in another run for the Twins in the bottom of the sixth to keep the Bombers from getting too comfortable. Cannon Davis and the defense were able to limit the damage to the lone run, and Davis would exit the game at the end of the inning. Davis’ day ended with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk and 4 hits over six innings. College Station native John Altman took the mound for the Bombers in the seventh inning to continue the defensive effort. Altman pitched a single inning, allowing 2 hits but no runs, before giving up pitching duties to Tristan Stivors in the bottom of the eighth. With Stivors on the mound, the Twins threatened to re-tie the game with a runner on third, but Stivors dug in and delivered the strikeout to survive the inning. Zach DeLeon entered in the final half-inning to protect the Bombers 4-3 lead, his first time facing the Twins offense this season. DeLeon struck out two and induced a ground-out to end the game and keep the Bombers on top. The Bombers advance their league-leading record to 16-3.
