Bryan/College Station, TX - June 6, 2019 - The Brazos Valley Bombers continued to streamroll their Louisiana opponents with a 9-3 drubbing of the Acadiana Cane Cutters at home. The Bombers remain undefeated at home and on the road, rolling their way to a 7-0 start.

The Bombers elected to start Reece Easterling on the mound against Acadiana. Easterling was efficient, striking out three in seven innings. The righty allowed a single hit in the first and didn’t surrender another until the Cane Cutters tore off a single in the seventh.

“It felt good,” said Easterling. “The crowd came out. Thirsty Thursday, it’s always electric. I just got behind the crowd and tried to give them the best outing I could.”

Bryce Bennett joined the team for the first time and struck out his first batter as a Bomber. Bennett walked two, and the Cane Cutters put their first scores on the board in the top of the eighth. Three runs came across with Bennett on the mound, but only one would go down as earned.

Zach DeLeon finished the game out with a three-strikeout, two-hit ninth inning.

Ridge Rogers and Logan Sartori got the offense rolling in the first with consecutive singles, and Cole Coker took them both home with a two-RBI double. Coker had three hits and knocked in three runs for the Bombers on the day. The Bombers had yet another multiple-run inning, pushing four across in the fourth, largely due to a breakdown in the Cane Cutters pitching.

The Cane Cutters Bailey Holstein walked Sam McElreath and Jacob Padilla at the bottom of the fourth. The Cane Cutters put in Noah Hughes in relief of Holstein. Bryant Shellenbarger loaded the bases with a single, and Hughes pegged Tyler Smith to force McElreath across the bag. Rogers followed up with a ripping single to push Padilla across. Logan Sartori was hit by a pitch to force Shellenbarger across, and Tyler Smith scored on a wild pitch to extend the Bombers lead to 7-0. Hughes struck Jordan Yeatts and the Cane Cutters sent him off, replacing him with Bailey Hargreave who finished the inning.

The Bombers defense remained outstanding. Sartori, Yeatts and Chase Kemp sang in perfect harmony, helping maintain Easterling’s outing with two 6-4-3 double plays and a 4-3 double play.

Sartori’s defense must have angered the Cane Cutters because the shortstop was hit by three pitches by three different pitchers during tonight’s win.

“I feel a little banged up,” said Sartori post game, “but I’m going to take a nice ice bath and heal up, get ready for tomorrow.”

The Bombers celebrated the heroic first responders of the Bryan/College Station area during Thursday’s Superheroes Night celebration. Children in attendance could be spotted sporting shiny, colorful capes emblazoned with the logo of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, the local emergency response and workforce training organization.

The Bombers improve to 7-0 on the season, and the Cane Cutters fall to 1-5.

“We love coming out here on our first home Thursday and getting the opportunity to play in front of a really good crowd,” said General Manager Brian Nelson. “We got out early, and it felt good. We were able to kind of keep it rolling. Seven and 0 is always a good thing.”

Ridge Rogers’ contribution to the Bombers undefeated home stand cannot be neglected. During this three-game stretch, Rogers went eight for 15 with four RBI, five runs score and a stolen base.

The Bombers and Cane Cutters continue their series against Acadiana Friday night at Travis Field.
