Bombers Offense Explodes Midway Through 2019 Home OpenerBryan/College Station, TX - June 4, 2019 - Both Mother Nature and the Brazos Valley Bombers rained on the Baton Rouge Rougarou as the Bombers opened at Travis Field for the first time this season. The Bombers pushed across every member of their starting lineup and six players recorded at least one RBI during their 11-1 win at home. Henry Bird earned a place in the starting pitching rotation after several excellent outings during the Bombers Louisiana road trip. In his first start for the Bombers, Bird struck out seven and let in just one run. Joe Buckendorff made an appearance in relief and took care of business, three up, three down, in the eighth. Cole Sichley closed out the game for Brazos Valley on the mound. Daxton Tinker proved to be troublesome for the Bombers early on, striking out four Bombers in the first three innings of play. Coker would be the only Bomber to reach base off Tinker until Logan Sartori singled to left field in the bottom of the fourth. The Bombers honored two A&M sports teams during their Trophy Tuesday celebration, and their 2018-2019 season accomplishments were well worth celebration. The Aggie cheer team took home their second national championship trophy in two years this year. The Aggie women’s basketball team was also honored after yet another banner year and a Sweet Sixteen appearance for Gary Blair and his talented group of players. Jasmine Williams, a junior on the A&M women’s basketball team and a Bombers gameday intern, was among those honored Tuesday. “Being honored by the Bombers is a great opportunity for our basketball team to come out and enjoy the community that supports us on a game-to-game basis,” said Williams. “We really appreciate that.” Sam McElreath’s name appeared on the roster for the first time this season. Heading into the matchup, the Bombers general manager, Brian Nelson, had high expectations for the second-year Bomber. “We’re expecting a little jolt,” said Nelson. “We’re going to put him in the lineup right away, and he’s going to provide a little fresh legs for us and probably a little energy. He knows a lot of the guys, too, so it’ll be a pretty seamless transition for him.” McElreath’s fresh legs contributed two hits on three at-bats, two RBI and one run scored. McElreath was the second Bomber to drive in a run, kicking off a blistering offensive run for the home team. Tinker began to falter in the fifth for the Rougarou and walked Sartori to load the bases with the Bombers up 2-1. The Rougarou played reactionary, putting in Jacob Snyder to relieve the beleaguered starter. With the bases loaded, Snyder walked two and struck Kyle Bergeron to push three more across. To stop the bleeding, the Rougarou pulled Snyder after three batters in favor of Austin Haenzel. Haenzel failed to handle as well, and the Bombers would end the inning with ten runs scored. The Bombers would record another in the sixth to go up ten on the Rougarou, and the visiting team’s offense had no answer for the onslaught. “I’m feeling good,” said McElreath in the dugout postgame. “I’m happy with the way I did. I’m happy with the way our pitching staff went out today. Henry Bird did a great job, and the relievers that came in after him did awesome. … Overall, I’m happy.” For tickets and information on how to see the Bombers 2019 season, please call (979) 779-PLAY, or go to www.bvbombers.com.
