Bombers Come Back to Win in ExtrasBryan/College Station, Texas (June 13, 2017)-It's never over until the fat-lady sings...this is a cliche that the Brazos Valley Bombers learned yet again Tuesday night at Nutrabolt Stadium against the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The Bombers were able to claw their way to victory, taking advantage of a throwing error on a dropped 3rd strike to tie it at 5-5. Then in the 11th inning, off of a Jared Mang infield single, Allonte Wingate slid head-first into home to win it 6-5. The Cane Cutters started the scoring by scratching a run across in the top of the 1st. Then in the 3rd, the Bombers finally answered by putting up a 3-spot off of John Grimsley and Blake Clanton (both in their Bomber-debuts) to go up 3-1. Then the Bombers were hit by the error bug and gave up 4-unanswered and un-earned runs to make it 5-3 all the way until the bottom of the 8th. In the 8th, the Bombers had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and off of a Ryan Benavidez single, one run came in to score but Kyle O'Keefe was thrown out at the plate to keep in 5-4 headed to the 9th. The Bombers in the 9th, behind solid bullpen outings from Reid Morgan, Clayton Hill, and Chris Cooper kept the deficit at 1. Micheal Helman singled, then moved to 2nd on a pass-ball with John Grimsley at the dish and 2 outs. Grimsley struck out swinging on a ball in the dirt and the game seemed all but over with a throw from the catcher to first to end it. But the throw was a bit low, the 1st baseman booted it, Grimsley made it safely, and Helman rounded third to score on the error. This debacle tied the game at 5, and sent it into extra innings. With the score still tied at 5 and 1 out, Allonte Wingate was able to move his way around to 3rd base, and score off a chopping ground ball off the bat of Jared Mang, winning it 6-5 in dramatic fashion. This is the second straight walk-off win for the Bombers. On a night with a full Nutrabolt Stadium, Chris Cooper picks up the win in relief and with the victory, the Bombers grow their lead in the TCL standings to 2.5 games over Victoria who had the night off. The Bombers go for the sweep on Wednesday against the Acadiana Cane Cutters and welcome in the Texarkana Twins on Thursday.
