Long Ball Pushes Win Streak to 15
Bryan-College Station, TX (July 17th, 2016) - The Bombers came in to the second game of their series looking to sweep the Woodland Strykers, while looking for their 15th straight win. The Bombers used five pitchers in their 9-0 victory over the Strykers extending the franchise record for most consecutive wins.
Austin Kerns started on the mound and threw five scoreless innings, he had two strike outs on 61 pitches. Replacing Kerns was University of Oklahoma product Joey Zurawik who pitched for one inning in his second appearance of the season. Miguel Ausua came in for the Bombers in the ninth inning to secure the 9-0 shutout.
Third baseman Alex Samples was the first to create offense for the Bombers with a two run home run in the top of the fourth. In the fifth inning Spencer Hemphill hit his own two run home run to bring the score to 4-0. The Bombers added three more runs in the fifth to push the score to 7-0. After two scoreless innings, Spencer Hemphill picked up his third RBI of the game by doubling in Hunter Wilson. In the eighth inning John Grimsley picks up his 10th RBI of the season, driving in Spencer Hemphill and extending the Bombers lead to the game’s final score, 9-0.
The Bombers will be back at Nutrabolt Stadium after the All-Star break. They take on the Victoria Generals on July 20th. First pitch is at 7:05.
