Catcher Tucker Pennell had his second walk-off hit of the season after going 3-for-4 Tuesday night.
Bryan-College Station, TX (July 29, 2014) – Thanks to a walk-off homerun from catcher Tucker Pennell, the Brazos Valley Bombers (35-12) lifted themselves over the Victoria Generals (33-18) Tuesday night with a 4-3 victory.
“[Tucker] brings it every day—great kid, hard worker, grinder,” said assistant coach Tyler Gillum. “He really got that one with two outs to walk it off, and good job to step up there at the end when we needed him to.”
The Generals went up 2-0 early in the game, scoring a run in the second and another in the top of the fifth. The Bombers responded in the bottom of the fifth however, tying the game at 2-2.
The Bombers took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Generals would tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth, eventually sending the game into extra innings. Neither team was able to score in the 10th inning, but Pennell launched a two out homerun over the left field wall in the bottom of the 11th to give the Bombers their fourth consecutive victory.
“I was just seeing the ball well tonight and he threw me the one pitch I was looking for,” Pennell said. “I was ready to go home.”
The Bombers will face the Generals once again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. Wednesday’s game is Weenie Wednesday presented by FedStar Credit Union, with dollar hot dogs for the entirety of the game.
