Bryan-College Station, TX (July 24, 2014) – The Brazos Valley Bombers (31-12) fell 2-0 to the Acadiana Cane Cutters (23-20) Thursday night.
“We’ve got to tip our hat to them tonight,” said head coach Curt Dixon. “Their pitchers did a good job—they kept us in their counts and off balance all night.”
The Cane Cutters took an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first. The Bombers would keep themselves in the game with solid pitching and good defense, epitomized by a triple play from shortstop Horacio Correa III in the fourth inning, the first in Bombers baseball history.
“Horacio’s been making plays all year,” Dixon said. “His instincts out there, to react that quick and make that happen—I don’t think I’ve seen a pure 6-3 triple play in my 20 years of baseball, so it was pretty neat to see.”
Acadiana would add another run in the top of the seventh, and the Bombers would ultimately be unable to rally, dropping their first home game since June.
The Bombers and the Cane Cutters will rematch Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. The game will feature performances from the national traveling act the Sweet Right Brothers, who have performed at minor league games of the Charleston RiverDogs, the Birmingham Barons and Asheville Tourists among others.
