Bryan-College Station, TX (June 26, 2014) – The Brazos Valley Bombers (17-6) fell to the East Texas PumpJacks (8-15) 7-6 in 10 innings Thursday.
“It was right there in front of us,” said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. “We did a good job fighting and scoring that run in the top half [of the ninth,] but we did some things uncharacteristic of us and gave it away there.”
The Bombers got out to an early 5-2 lead, scoring three runs in the top of the third. East Texas would battle back however, adding a pair of runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to tie the game.
The game would go to extra innings, where Bombers left fielder Blake Kopetsky singled to score right fielder Hunter Haley, giving the Bombers a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th. In the bottom of the frame, a pair of Bombers miscues allowed the PumpJacks to tie the game and load the bases. PumpJacks third baseman Connor Hornsby was then able to drive in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly, snapping the Bombers’ five game winning streak.
“The good thing about this league is we play tomorrow, and we’ve got these guys the next three nights,” Dixon said.
The Bombers will rematch East Texas Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Driller Park in Kilgore, Texas before returning home Saturday to welcome the PumpJacks to Cellucor Field for a two-game series.
