Bombers Cruise to Fifth Consecutive Victory 8-4

First baseman G.R. Hinsley

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 14, 2014) – The Brazos Valley Bombers (11-3) cruised past the Woodlands Strykers (4-9) 8-4 Saturday night, extending their win streak to five straight including their last three home games.

The Bombers took advantage of five total errors by the Strykers to jump out to an early lead. The comedy of errors for the Strykers began in the second inning when the Bombers plated five runs off two errant throws and a wild pitch. The Strykers had six passed balls in the game along with two wild pitches thrown by Woodlands starter Cullen Cosco. The Bombers took advantage of the Strykers’ shoddy play with seven stolen bases including three by left fielder Ford Moore and two from right fielder Blake Kopetsky.

Texas A&M product G.R. Hinsley starred for the Bombers at the plate, posting a 2-for-4 night with an RBI and a stolen base. Hinsley leads the team in RBI’s with 11 and is also tied for the team lead for stolen bases with eight.

Every Bomber hitter reached base Saturday via seven hits and eight free passes from the Strykers pitching staff.  The Bombers lead the Texas Collegiate League in walks with 83 for the season.

Bombers starting pitcher Mike Walker picked up his first win of the year after allowing two runs in five innings. Relief pitcher Andre Shewcraft struck out four and allowed two runs  in three innings of work while closer Carson Bohler came on to blank the Strykers in the final inning.

The Bombers will conclude their five-game home stand with a rare doubleheader Sunday night against the Strykers. The teams will play a pair of seven-inning games. The start time for game one is 6:15 p.m. and a ticket buys you entrance into both games. Sunday is Baseball Bingo night at Cellucor Field presented by Brazos Bingo, where seniors get in free.
