California Boys to Play in the Lone Star State

California Boys to Play in the Lone Star State

Coming to the Brazos Valley this summer all the way from the Golden Coast, the Bombers are delighted to announce the signing of three more players to this season's roster. Brycen Rutherford and Miles Williams will be joining us from California State University in Northridge. Also returning to the Brazos Valley for his second year, Ryan Santhon joins the Bombers from California State University in L.A.. These ball-players should be a huge asset to this season's roster with Brycen and Miles' chemistry and Ryan's experience, the golden boys will be unstoppable.

6'1” junior, Brycen Rutherford is a native from California where he was a four-year letter-winner for the Apaches as a pitcher and outfielder. He earned a starting job and served as team captain as well. While competing for Arcadia High, he was named to the First Team All-League in three seasons and was league MVP in 2008. Starting his collegiate career, Rutherford competed as a starting pitcher for Rio Hondo College from 2010-12. He was named to the All-Conference Team in both seasons at Rio Hondo and picked up First Team All-America honors in 2011. In his final season, the Roadrunners finished as the second-ranked team in California. In his first season with California State Northridge, Rutherford has 21.0 innings pitched with an ERA of 4.29 and 16 strikeouts. The Bombers are excited to have this impressive player not only in the Lone Star State this summer but in the Brazos Valley playing for the Bombers.

From Cal State Los Angeles comes left handed pitcher Ryan Santhon. Santhon is a returning player; in 2012 he proved to be a solid pitcher for the Bombers. For the 2012 season, Santhon tossed 38 innings with 32 strikeouts and a 3.07 ERA. Santhon also had a great 2012 season for the Golden Eagles on the mound. Santhon made 13 appearances during his junior year and excelled in his strikeouts to innings pitched ratio. Ryan compiled 79 strikeouts in 82 innings with 4 wins, 1 save, and a 3.07 ERA. Santhon has proven that he is a dominant pitcher; with his junior year as his first year at Cal State L.A., he quickly rose to one of the best on the team leading in starts, innings pitched, and strikeouts. In his final win against Cal State East Bay, Santhon didn't allow an earned run over 7 innings on the mound. Before coming to Cal State L.A., Santhon attended L.A. Pierce College where he proved his skills. Ryan earned second team All-Conference honors after going 6-2 with a 2.25 ERA his sophomore year. As a freshman in 2012, Ryan earned All-Conference honorable mention after going 6-4 with a 2.79 ERA.

Another player coming to play for the Bombers this summer from California is junior outfielder Miles Williams out of California State Northridge. Coming out of high school Williams chose to sign with Cal State Northridge despite getting drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 42nd round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Since stepping onto campus at Cal State Northridge, Miles Williams has been a very key contributor for Northridge. During his freshman year, Williams played in 30 of Northridge's 50 games of the season and started in 14 of those games. In his first appearance as a member of the Northridge baseball team, Williams connected on a 2-run home-run that ended up turning out to be the game winner over Valparaiso University. In Williams sophomore season he became a full-time starter, starting in 49 of his teams 50 games. During that season he recorded a batting average of .259, with 6 home-runs, and 25 runs batted in. Now in his junior year, Northridge has very high expectations for Williams. He is not only continuing to be the full-time starter, but he is now batting cleanup for the Matadors. Now 22 games into this season, Williams is not disappointing. He has already connected on 7 home-runs and already driven in 25 runs. With Williams putting up these big numbers early it looks as if he is in for his best collegiate season yet, which is very good news for Bombers fans.

The Bombers start their season on the road against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on May 30th. Opening day at American Momentum Ballpark will be on June 4th versus the Woodland Strykers.
