Bombers Beat Aces 6-1 On Bark In The Park Night

The Bombers (8-4 for second half) closed out their three game home stand tonight against the Alexandria Aces. The Bombers earned an all around team win tonight on Bark In The Park Night brought to you by Lovan Care Animal Clinic.

The Bombers scored their first run in the second inning. Left fielder Brandon Wood led the inning off with a walk, then scored on a sacrifice bunt by second baseman Corey Toups that was thrown over the first baseman’s head for the Aces. Toups would come home to score to make it 2-0 on a passed ball. The next run for the Bombers would come in the seventh inning. Catcher Myles Parma hit a single to left field, and was brought to the plate on a single ripped to left field by Wood. The Bombers would go on to add three more runs in the eighth inning. After first baseman Brad Porras led the inning off with a walk and right fielder Quinton Urban hit a single, both runners were moved up to 2nd and 3rd on a sacrifice bunt from center fielder Chris Florack. Porras came home to score on a grounder hit by designated hitter James Wharton, who was safe on the play because of the error. The fifth run for the Bombers came when third baseman Brennyn Smith stroked a single that scored Urban. Toups would step to the plate and hit a single to left field that would score Wharton giving the Bombers a 6-0 lead.

Texarkana native and Aggie Nathan Sorenson started on the mound tonight for the Bombers making his second start of the season. Sorenson had to deal with runners on the base paths for much of the game, but went on to pitch seven innings while recording seven strikeouts. In the eighth inning Derek Mazzio came in and pitched a solid inning in relief for the Bombers. Nick Johnson came into the game and pitched the ninth. Johnson allowed the lone run for the Aces and recorded one strikeout during his time on the hill.

The defense for the Bombers once again stood behind the pitchers and made great plays to help them get out of jams. The first was a nice play by Smith at third. Smith charged a bunt then made a bare hand throw to Toups who was covering first base. Toups stared another great play for the Bombers. With the bases loaded for the Aces, Toups fielded a ground ball then alertly stepped on second for an out before relaying to Porras at first for a double play. With runners again on base for the Aces in the fourth inning, Toups started a 4-6-3 double play with a help of shortstop Nick Smelser and Porras that ended the inning. Perhaps the best play of the night came from Brennyn Smith. Smith fielded a ground ball hit deep in the hole at third. Smith then made an ESPN Top 10 Play by spinning around and then throwing off his back foot to Toups at second for an out.

The Bomber now head to Acadiana for two games with the Cane Cutters starting tomorrow and concluding Tuesday. Both games are set for 7:05. The Bombers return home this coming Wednesday when they play host to the Victoria Generals at 7:05. The game will be a Margaritaville Wednesday with $1 Margaritas! The Bombers conclude the home stand on Thursday when they host the East Texas Pump Jacks. The game is scheduled for 7:05. The night is a Thirsty Thursday with $1 Beer and Sodas brought to you by Western Beverages! The night will also be our second bobble head giveaway this time featuring Shel Winkley w/KBTX presented by Jones & Lowe Agency!
