Bombers Head To The Metroplex Before Coming Home

The Bombers concluded their two game series tonight with the Victoria Generals from Riverside Stadium. The Bombers had a problem scoring runs in their previous two games, but they did not have any problems in this one as the beat the Generals 8-3 at Riverside Stadium. The Bombers (20-15) will now head to the Metroplex to play the Texas Marshals from Jesuit High School.

After struggling for runs in the last two games, the Bombers scored two runs in the first inning off of Baylor pitcher Trae Davis. Right fielder Myles Parma led the game off with a walk then moved up to second base on a wild pitch. Catcher Braden Mattson hit an infield single that allowed Parma to score. The second run was scored by Mattson on a wild pitch from Davis that bounced past the Bombers dugout scoring Mattson all the way from second making the game 2-0. After the Generals scored two runs, the Bombers came to bat in the sixth inning. Left fielder Brandon Wood led the inning off with a walk. As the next batter, First baseman James Wharton was at bat, Generals Pitcher, Trae Davis threw over to first but the ball got past Trace Knoblauch and rolled to the Bombers bullpen allowing Wood to race all the way to third base. Wharton then hit groundball to short that scored Wood from third making the game 3-2 Bombers. The Bombers took a 5-2 lead in the eighth inning. Center fielder Chris Florack was hit by a pitch and was relieved by Jordan Hammerman. Myles Parma then reached on an error by Carter Mangum of the Generals that put two runners on for the Bombers. James Wharton came to bat a few batters later and drilled a pitch to the warning track in centerfield that scored both Hammerman and Parma. The Bombers got their sixth run in the ninth inning. Quinton Urban scored on a single to rightfield by second baseman Shea Pierce. Urban came into the game to pinch run for Bobby Butvin who led the inning off with a single. The Bombers would get a couple of more runs in the inning. Parma hit a triple to leftfield that scored Hammerman, and then a balk was called on Generals pitcher Corey Holmes that allowed Parma to come home making the lead 8-2.

Tarzana, California native, Ryan Santhon started on the mound for the Bombers. Santhon was a little shaky at the beginning but settled into a groove to throw six inning and recorded five strikeouts. St. Louis, Missouri native, Derek Mazzio came into the game in the seventh inning in relief of Santhon. Mazzio pitched one inning recording one strikeout while taking a ball off his shoulder on a sharply hit ball from Alex Klonowski of the Generals. Mazzio remained in the game to retire Generals third baseman Chad Kruse to end the inning. Lefty, Franco Pace came in to pitch the eighth inning and recorded a solid inning of work. Nick Johnson came into to finish the game in the ninth inning. Johnson recorded two strikeouts in his inning of work. Santhon and James Wharton were named the H&R Block Never Settle For Less Players of the Game.

The Bombers defense was busy making plays early in the game. In the first inning, first baseman James Wharton was able to stop a ground ball hit to him with two out.. Wharton stepped on first to end the inning. Another play was made by Parma in right. After Parma caught a flyball, he fired to Mattson at the plate who tagged out Blue Hybner trying to score. Brennyn Smith was able to start a 5-4-3 double play to end the third inning that was made complete by second baseman Shea Pierce and first baseman James Wharton. In the eighth inning with a runner on for the Generals, shortstop Nick Smelser was able to field a ground ball. Smelser then flipped to Shea Pierce at second who relayed the ball to Wharton at first for an inning ending 6-4-3 double play.
