Bombers Close Out June with a Victory in Alexandria

Bombers Close Out June with a victory in Alexandria.

The Bombers looked to get a win tonight to end the month of June. After a couple of hard loses in the last couple of days, the team went to the movies to clear their heads. The Movie, TED, must have helped as the Bombers returned to traditional form to earn a 5-1 victory over the Aces at Bringhurst Field.

Shortstop Corey Toups drove in the first run of the game in the second inning when he hit a RBI single to leftfield that drove in first baseman Bobby Butvin who hit a double to the left field corner to get on base. The Bombers would score another one in the third inning when left fielder Chris Florak, who got on base with a single came home to score on a RBI single to rightfield by catcher Braden Mattson. In the fourth inning, the Bombers managed to scored two runs. After Butvin hit a double off the wall in left center, third baseman Nick Smelser stroked a single that allowed Butvin to come to the plate. The second run of the inning was scored by Smelser who scored on a wild pitch from third. The Bombers would add another run in the eighth inning. Mattson led off the inning with a double off the leftfield wall. He would score on a Smelser double to leftfield that made the game 5-1.

Andrew Godail made his first start of the season. Andrew pitched five innings, recorded four strikeouts, and threw 62 pitches. Right hander Luis Dejesus came into the game in the sixth inning and pitched two innings throwing 34 pitches and recording one strikeout. Franco Pace and Derek Mazzio teamed up to pitch the eighth. Bryan native, Ryan Ulman came into the game and pitched the ninth to secure the 5-1 victory.

Godail was helped out by great defense tonight with the defense turning three double plays while he was on the mound. The first happened in the second when Smelser started a 5-4-3 double play to second baseman Shea Pierce and Bobby Butvin. Another happened in the third. This time it was a 6-4-3 that was started by Corey Toups who then flipped to Pierce who relayed it to Butvin. The last one happened at a crucial moment. With the bases loaded with one out, Pierce caught a fly ball and quickly threw it to Butvin to double off an Aces runner and end the inning. For their performances tonight, Andrew Godail and Bobby Butvin were named the H&R Block Never Settle For Less Players of the Game.

The Bombers return home tomorrow as they take on the East Texas Pump Jacks for the first Sundae Funday and Baseball Bingo of the season brought to you by Brazos Bingo! The night is also Bye Bye Big 12 Night commemorating the Aggies move to the Southeastern Conference. The McKinney Marshall come to American Momentum Bank Ballpark on Monday for a 7:05 game before the Bombers head to the Metroplex for a series with the Marshalls starting July 4th.
