Aggie Night and Fireworks Thrill Bombers Fans

Bryan-College Station, TX (August 6, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers welcomed fans to Aggie Night and the last Fireworks Friday of the 2010 season as the Bombers were defeated by the Alexandria Aces 11-6. Hundreds of fans filled the stadium early as they hoped to get one of the 500 bobbleheads on Dat Nguyen Bobblehead Night presented by Brazos Valley Bank.

Aggie greats threw first pitches followed by Dat Nguyen and Congressman Edwards before fans sang the Aggie War Hymn to get things started. The Bombers fed off the energy, scoring early to gain a 1-0 lead as Morgan Mickan reached home plate on a Casey Dykes RBI sacrifice fly. The Aces struggled in the first two innings before breaking through in the third with five runs to pull ahead 5-1.

After the Aces added another in the fourth to lead 6-1 the Bombers Josh McElroy’s two out RBI single scored Mickan, bringing the Bombers back within four at 6-2. The visitors scored one in the sixth and eighth each to put the Bombers in a 8-2 hole heading into the bottom of the eighth.

In that inning Bombers bats came alive as the team scored four runs. Justin Padron started the scoring, reaching from third on an error by the outfielder. Two batters later, Isaac Nuti scored Cameron Dullnig and Ryan Morrow on a two RBI double before he was plated when Brennyn Smith drew a bases-loaded walk. The inning ended with a controversial out call at the plate after a wild pitch.

The home team’s momentum was broken in the top of the ninth as the Aces scored three runs, two on a home run, pushing the score to 11-6. The Bombers were unable to gain any traction in the bottom of the last inning, failing to score and dropping the first game of the final homestand.

During the game, the Bombers’ Morgan Mickan broke the team records for stolen bases and walks in a single season. The two are just a sampling of the record-breaking year the team is having, and with many more team and league records within reach and already broken, the season will certainly be one to remember.

The Bombers will be back in action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark for Breakfast in the Ballpark tomorrow morning at 9:30 on the last Kids Free Saturday presented by Chicken Express with free admission, food, and tickets to the Kids Zone for children.
