Bryant Shellenbarger is the Backwall Bombers Position Player of the Week, sponsored by Gold’s Gym!

Shellenbarger joins the Bombers from Mount Vernon, Ohio this summer, one of the Bombers northernmost active players. After a couple of seasons at Lincoln Trail Junior College, Shellenbarger is transferring to the University of Akron to add his hot bat to the Zips revived baseball program.

His hitting prowess and his enthusiasm for the game have made him a valuable asset for the Bombers this season.

“I love penciling that guy in the lineup because he loves playing baseball,” says General Manager Brian Nelson. “I remember picking him up from the airport, and we were about to go to the host family, and the first thing he asked was when he was going to get to go hit.”

The lefty hitter has been crushing the ball, and his solo home run on Sunday helped lift the Bombers 5-0 over the Victoria Generals on the road. Shellenbarger decided the 305’ up the right-field line was too close, so he opted to deliver his blast close to 400’ in the opposite direction.

“[The Generals] were pitching me outside the whole game, so I went with the mindset that I was going to hit the left-center gap,” said Shellenbarger. “I was able to barrel that one up.”

Shellenbarger also torched one into the outfield to record an RBI triple during the Bombers 5-3 win over the Generals on Monday.

“He loves hitting,” says Nelson. “He’s been very clutch, and every time he comes up to bat, we feel really, really good about what he’s going to be able to do for us.”
