BLOG: Bombers Offense off to Red Hot StartThe Bombers offense has thumped opponents through the first eight games of the 2019 seasons. Brazos Valley has yet to lose so far, dropping the Acadiana Cane Cutters and the Baton Rouge Rougarou in pairs of home-and-home two-game series. The Bombers outscored the Cane Cutters and Rougarou 64-26 before the first break in the Bombers schedule. Brazos Valley has only played two games decided by fewer than three runs thus far. Four different Bombers have homered so far this season: Logan Sartori, Tyler Smith, Bryant Shellenbarger and Chase Kemp. Sartori was the first to get over the wall for the Bombers with a three-run bomb against the Baton Rouge Rougarou on June 4. Shellenbarger also leads the Bombers with two triples this season. Cole Coker has been the Most Valuable Player at the plate for the Bombers. Through the first eight games, Coker went 16 for 36 with 12 singles, 4 doubles, and 11 RBI, earning him the honor of Backwall Bombers Position Player of the Week. But Coker has had some ferocious competition from fellow outfielder Ridge Rogers. Rogers is 15 for 36 through eight with 12 singles, 3 doubles and 8 RBI. Rogers leads the team in runs scored with 11, many of them thanks to Coker’s heroics at the plate in the three hole. Both have started all eight games for the Bombers so far this season. The Bombers have also been robbing the Louisiana representatives of the TCL blind this season, averaging almost three stolen bases per game. Sartori has been the most prolific thief on the basepaths, recording eight stolen bases on ten attempts. The undefeated Bombers resume their season against the Baton Rouge Rougarou at Travis Field on Monday. |
