With the third pick in the second round, the Atlanta Braves selected Todd Cunningham from Jacksonville State. In his time with the Bombers, Cunningham led the Texas Collegiate League in batting average and finished third in hits. The Alabama native was the starting center fielder for the 2008 TCL All-Star team and was named as the TCL’s number two prospect by Baseball America.
Just two rounds later, The Cincinnati Reds selected Brodie Greene from Texas A&M. The Bullard, Texas native was a member of the Bombers’ 2009 roster. In the sixteenth round, the Houston Astros took Chris Wallace, a catcher from the University of and a member of the Bombers 2007 inaugural squad. Also from the inaugural squad is eighteenth round pick Thomas Keeling from Oklahoma State.
In the twenty-seventh round another Aggie, Nick Fleece, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners. Fleece is a member of both the 2009 and 2010 Bombers’ rosters. TJ Mittelstaedt was the last Bomber taken in the draft. The right fielder from Long Beach State was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the forty-forth round after playing for the Bombers in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
The Bombers and the TCL continue to improve their footing as one of the premier wooden bat leagues in America, providing players with the exposure and training they need to succeed at the next level.
