Fireworks Friday Full of Family Fun

Bryan-College Station (June 11, 2010) – Bombers fans stayed all night long to witness the first Fireworks Friday of the summer and not one left disappointed. The Bombers lost the game to the Victoria Generals, 1-5 but the Fireworks show lit up the sky and 1662 faces around Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark. In addition to the fireworks display, fans were treated to visits by the Mini Coopers and Model-T Clubs in celebration of Cars night, and the ballpark was decorated with flags of all nations celebrating the opening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup for World Cup all thanks to FedStar Credit Union.

The Bombers got off to an early start against the Victoria Generals, scoring one in the first when Greg Olson was plated by Tanner Toal’s single to left field to make the score 1-0 Bombers. The team was stuck in neutral for the rest of the game though, with only two more players reaching base against a tough pitching staff from Victoria.

The Generals tied the game up in the sixth with a home run off of the bat of Michael Pair to make the score 1-1. The long ball was the second given up by Bombers’ starter Alec Mills this season. Mills found himself in more trouble an inning later, with David Baker scoring on a wild pitch and Jeramie Marek on a sacrifice fly before Andrew Massey came in to relive him. Massey allowed two more of Mills’ runners, Michael Niemann and Pair, to score before he could get out of the inning, making the score 1-5.

The Bombers’ Josh McElroy singled in the ninth and moved to second on a steal, but was left there as the last two batters for the Bombers flew out to right field. The Bombers’ defense was solid again, making play after play, but the lack of offense was too much for the team to overcome, and the Generals left with the win, 1-5.

The Bombers travel to face the Texas TomCats for a weekend series. The Bombers will be back in action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Monday night, looking for revenge against tonight’s foe, the Victoria Generals on Home Improvement Night with 50 cent hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts.
