Youngsville, Louisiana (May, 2017)-Trey Porras had to rely on his bullpen to pull out the first win of his Bombers coaching career and the first win of the 2017 season.
The Bombers took down the Acadiana Cane Cutters 3-2 on the road at Fabacher Field to improve to 1-1.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters struck first in the 2nd inning with two runs and the Bombers quickly answered back with a run in the top of the 3rd off a Michael Helman SAC fly, his second RBI in as many games.
Then in the 5th, the Bombers scored 2 runs in a 2-out rally including a Ryan Benavidez RBI single and then Dalton Stark scoring off of a pass ball.
University of Texas commit Brandon Ivey was able to get through 5 innings with 2 earned runs, 3 strikeouts, 5 walks, and 4 hits before giving things over to the bullpen in the 6th.
Gavin Alvarez was the first in relief, seeing his first live game action since suffering a torn meniscus last summer, and was able to strike out the side. Then College Station resident Dayden Lane entered in and blew through his first inning in just 4 pitches, and was able to get out of a jam in the 8th without giving up a run. Finally, Chris Cooper entered in the 9th for the save, retiring each of the three batters he faced.
Player of the Game was Ryan Benavidez who went 2-3 with a double, RBI, a stolen base, and a walk.
The Bombers will now pack their bags for Texarkana for the first time in franchise history this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for Sunday at 7:30, pre-game starts at 7:15 on 1550 Willy FM and Facebook Live.
