Saenz has received this award because of his outstanding work over his past two starts against the Alexandria Aces and Texas TomCats. Saenz went the distance in both starts, giving up only one earned run in 17 innings of work, striking out ten and walking only one batter. The Andrews native took a tough loss in the first game, losing 1-0 on an unearned run, but got the win Sunday in a 3-2 victory over the TomCats.
Saenz’s success is no surprise to the Bombers as he was the staff leader in inning pitched, wins, and strikeouts this season at New Mexico Junior College. The pitcher now has a 1-1 record with an ERA of 0.50 on the season and has picked up a save as well.
The Brazos Valley Bombers are members of the Texas Collegiate League, one of the nation’s premier summer collegiate circuits. Teams like the Bombers bring minor league baseball-style entertainment to communities throughout the country, giving some of the best college players a chance to further their careers in wood bat leagues in front of Major League scouts. The Bombers 56-game season began on June 2 and runs through August 8, followed by the TCL playoffs and a championship series. Season tickets for the 2010 season are still available, and there are some great specials on both season tickets as well as more specialized ticket packages.
