Late Inning Surge Pushes The Bombers Past the Marshals

The Brazos Valley Bombers started their four game home stand just the way they wanted to, as they defeated the Texas Marshals 4-3 in a tight game.

The Texas Marshals came out with a boom as they scored the opening run of the game in the top of the first.  The Bombers quickly struck back in the bottom of the second inning with a single by Brett Kauten and a RBI single by Graham McIntyre to bring in Kauten for the tying run.  After the Marshals got on base with a couple of errors by the Bombers, Parker Jones hit a RBI single to put the Bombers behind 2-1 in the top of the 6th.

The lead would not last long though, as Graham McIntyre doubled to start the bottom of the 7th and scored on a wild pitch.  After a walk by Horacio Correa, Patrick McClendon singled to left setting up a first and third situation.  Blake Kopetsky would then bring in the lead changing run by getting on base with an error putting the Bombers up 3-2.  The Bombers wouldn’t look back as they scored an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th.

Pitcher Ford Moore made his first start with the Bombers giving up 5 hits and one unearned run in 3.2 innings pitched.  Jason Freeman, who got the win, pitched 3.1 innings after giving only one hit and one unearned run.  Rex Hill came in for the setup in the bottom of the 8th as he struck out the side in a three up three down fashion.  Shay Maltese finished the game by locking up the save giving the Bombers a 4-3 win.
