Bryan-College Station, Texas (August 11, 2016) – The Bombers set the record for stolen bases in a season after Mark Whitehead stole number 151 as they cruised past the Marshals 8-1.
Tonight’s Guaranteed Win Night and 9 Innings of Winnings was brought to you by Program Insurance Group. The Bombers would like to thank Gold’s Gym for the Helicopter Drop at the end of tonight’s game.
The loss for the Marshals eliminates them from playoff contention. The Bombers will play the Woodland Strykers Saturday night at Nutrabolt Stadium for a one-game playoff at 7:05pm. The game that night will feature a “Fill the Bus” Back-to-School theme. The winner of that game will play in the TCL Championship.
Whitehead stole two other bases to go along with the record setter. He got on base three times with a single and two walks and scored twice. Logan Bottrell had a perfect 3-for-3 night with two doubles, a run scored and four stolen bases. Bottrell leads the TCL with 22 stolen bases.
Alex Samples led the team with 2 RBIs on the night. Zach McGuire, Tim Lichty, Hunter Wilson and Jake Baxter all batted in a run as well.
Brandon Barbery got the start for Brazos Valley and went four innings and struck out five while allowing one run. Miguel Ausua, Austin Kerns and Anthony Herrera combined to pitche the final five innings and allowed only two hits with nine K’s.
Tomorrow, is the regular season finale, as the Bombers host the Texas Marshals on Aggie Night hosted by Cognizant Technology Solution. The Bombers bleed blue, but tomorrow’s jerseys also featured by Cognizant will have our players in maroon. All Texas A&M Student ID’s or Aggie Rings will get you into the ballpark for $5 only.
