NO SUNSERI, NO PROBLEM AS THE NAVY AND GOLD SPLIT

Youngsville/Acadiana, LA (June 17, 2023) – In a highly offensive night in the humid air of Southern Louisiana on Saturday, The Brazos Valley Bombers bounced back to split the two game series against one of their recently most common opponents in the Acadiana Cane Cutters with a 6-4 win. Both teams combined for 23 hits with the Bombers having the edge 13 to 10 in that category.

After 15 straight nights in the starting nine for the Bombers, TCL Star Casey Sunseri was given his first night off for the navy and gold, which in the beginning of the ballgame Friday didn’t seem to impact the mostly consistent Bombers offense. This effort was led by men like right fielder Cole Modgling went 3 for 5 and first baseman Simon Llaranga who went 2 for 3 with the  two go-ahead RBI’s. The Bombers’s starter Saturday, upstart right-hander Malik Pogue, once again mustered out another quality start throwing four innings of five hit, two run baseball with two walks and struck out six Cane Cutters. The bullpen was also equally impressive led by TCL newcomer Ryan Pherson throwing the final three innings of baseball, making it the second night in three days for the Bombers to have a reliever complete a nine out save.

The Bombers, who are now 8-7 in 2023, are now tied with Acadiana for second place in the TCL, as they both sit 2 games back of Baton Rouge for 1st in the league. The Bombers play the final game of their three game Louisiana road trip in the capital city tomorrow, as they some Father’s Day baseball with the top team in the land in the Baton Rouge Rougarou in what could be a crucial game to determine the Bombers’ ability to compete with the league’s best 15 games in.
