Bombers Drop One Late To Wranglers

The Brazos Valley Bombers took to the road on Wednesday night, dropping a close decision to the Weatherford Wranglers, 3-2.

The Bombers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning, but the Brazos Valley bullpen was unable to hold the lead, surrendering a pair of runs in the home half of the frame to give the decision to Weatherford.

Bombers starting pitcher John Touchton turned in a strong outing, going six innings and giving up just four hits and a walk. He struck out five Wranglers, and the only run Touchton allowed was unearned.

Cody Curry (1-2) came on and pitched a scoreless seventh, but got into trouble in the eighth inning. Evan Cox rescued Curry, but not before the damage had been done.

Struggling at the plate, the Bombers managed five hits in a superb performance by Wranglers starting pitcher Jon Kibler. TJ Mittelstaedt, making his first Bombers start at second base, posted a single, as did Will Basom, Keith Stein, and Ryan Weber. Mark McGonigle managed a double, the only extra-base hit for Brazos Valley. Basom and Stein scored the Bombers runs.

The Bombers visit Denton Thursday night, then get to enjoy an off-day on Friday. The team returns home for a pair of games over the weekend, starting with Saturday night’s contest with the Duncanville Deputies. Saturday is also Bombers Baseball Giveaway Night, where the first 500 fans through the gates will receive a keepsake logo baseball, presented by Infinity Pro Design. Sunday is a Bombers Kids Club Sunday, with kids receiving a D-Bat TCL mini-bat, sponsored by Mix 104.7.

After another two games on the road, the Bombers will be back to celebrate America on July 4 at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark. The Bombers will take on the Wichita Falls Roughnecks in a special mid-week afternoon game beginning at 3 pm.
