Bryan-College Station, TX (May 21, 2014) – The Brazos Valley Bombers have added five current and future Big 12 Texas-based players to their roster in preparation for their 2014 season.
One of three sophomores in the group, TCU Junior College commit Dane Steinhagen will join the Horned Frogs in the fall after his stint with the Bombers. Hailing from Beaumont, Texas, Steinhagen posted a .324 batting average and 59 runs in his sophomore season at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas.
The four remaining signees play collegiate ball north of the Red River at a pair of rival schools in the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
Representing the Sooners on the Bombers’ roster will be a pair of 175 pound sophomores in outfielder Hunter Haley of Nacogdoches, Texas and infielder Kolbey Carpenter of Waco, Texas. Carpenter batted .292 with a .416 slugging percentage— the fourth best on the team—during his sophomore campaign with the Sooners. Haley recorded a .293 batting average in his sophomore season at OU where he stole 12 bases and scored 41 runs—good for first and second respectively on the entire Sooner roster.
The two Cowboys who will suit up in Bomber-blue this summer are junior infielder Hunter Hagler and freshman catcher Robie Rojas. Hagler hit .238 this season at OSU with a .381 slugging percentage and Rojas batted .235 with a .381 on-base percentage in just his freshman season.
Though rivals during Big 12 play, Hagler and Rojas will join forces with Carpenter, Haley, and the rest of the Bombers in hopes of capturing another Texas Collegiate League Championship this summer.
The Bombers start their season on the road against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on May 29th. Opening day is June 3rd versus the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
