Bombers Lose First Game of 2019 Season

Texarkana, TX - June 12, 2019 - The Bombers suffer their first loss of the 2019 season at the hands of the Texarkana Twins. The 14-5 road loss goes down as the worst defensive showing of the season for the Bombers so far.

The Twins came out swinging, notching eight runs in the first inning of play against Christian Vega on the mound for Brazos Valley. The Twins added two more in the bottom of the third to go up 10-0 on what has been a dominant Bombers defense this season.

John Altman appeared in relief of Vega in the bottom of the fifth inning. Altman started out hot but began to falter as the innings wore on. Altman would record three innings on the mound for Brazos Valley. The men on the mound were not on the same page as catcher Jacob Padilla Wednesday night as wild pitches and passed balls plagued the Bombers first two arms of the night.

The Bombers offense sparked some hope with twin singles from Hunter Coleman and Jordan Yeatts in the top of the fifth. Jacob Padilla and Bryant Shellenbarger were able to deliver a pair of RBI, but the Twins defense was able to limit the damage to two runs.

The elder Coleman and Padilla worked in tandem once again in the seventh inning. Coleman doubled to open the inning, and Padilla ripped a single to center field that let Coleman get to home and cut the Twins lead to seven, but the Twins countered with two of their own in the bottom of the seventh to go up 12-3 and maintain a sizable lead.

In the top of the eighth, the Bombers were able to plate one more, but the offensive rhythm was lacking.

Cole Coker, who started the game at left field, found himself on the mound in relief in the bottom of the eighth. The Twins scored another pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Yeatts stayed hot with a leadoff single, and Kyle Bergeron would knock him home with an RBI double. Bergeron got home himself on a single to center field from Tyler Smith, but the offensive resurgence came up short. The Bombers fell to the Twins 14-5.

The Bombers head into their second game of the series against Texarkana with a 10-1 record.
