More Late-Inning Drama Pushes Bombers to 2-1 Walk-Off Win

Bryan/College Station,Texas (August 4, 2017) – Bombers wait until final inning but take down Cane Cutters in a 2-1 walk-off win in front of sell-out crowd at Nutrabolt Stadium.

In front of 2,182 passionate Bomber fans, Michael Mokma delivers yet another quality start with 8 innings of work, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 5 hits. He had a shutout working up until the 8th inning when Acadiana drove in a single run off a fielder’s choice.

The first 8 innings were not kind to the Bombers bats either, as the Acadiana staff held the Bomber’s lineup to just one hit until the 9th. In the 9th inning, after Chris Andritsos drove a fly-ball to the left-field line which put the Bombers down to their final out and with no-runners on base, the tide began to turn.

Thomas Jeffries rocketed a single into right-center to keep the inning alive, then was followed by an Acadiana throwing error to put runners at the corners. On the next pitch and Christian Boulware at the plate, Cane Cutter pitcher spiked a fastball into the turf, the ball squeeked its way to the back stop and Jeffries slid in to score the tying run.

Boulward then hit a line-drive that kicked off the pitchers mound and settled right in the middle of the infield to put runners at the corners again off the infield single. Then Dalton Stark, who had pinch ran the inning before, was up to the plate and on the first pitch hit a single into right field. This scored Kyle O’Keefe and won the ballgame for the Bombers on Aggie Night at Nutrabolt Stadium.

Christian Vick who entered in relief of Michael Mokma in the 9th, notches his first win of the 2017 season and the Bombers remain even with the Victoria Generals for first place. The Bombers are in action again on Saturday, August, 5th as they take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Nutrabolt Stadium for the final regular season home game of 2017.
