Daily Notes for April 16

Touchton dominates in Houston win
John Touchton was in the zone yesterday against Stephen F. Austin, as the Cougars rolled to a 5-0 win. Touchton pitched six brilliant innings without allowing a single run to cross the plate and also had six strikeouts while allowing just four hits. After collecting the win, he is now 3-2 on the year with a 4.76 ERA.

Huelsing’s perfect day
Tyler Huelsing enjoyed his best day at the plate of the season yesterday, as Memphis defeated Murray State in a slugfest 17-14. Huelsing reached base all six times he came to the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with three walks, three runs, a double and one RBI.

Long Beach State bounces back with huge win
After losing nine of 11 and falling down to #25 in the polls, Long Beach State bounced back in a big way, defeating Pepperdine 10-0. T.J. Mittelstaedt was 0-for-1, but scored a run in the Dirtbags most impressive win in three weeks. Long Beach State will try to continue their success this weekend as they travel to play California State Northridge.

Cunningham leads Jacksonville State’s offensive barrage
Todd Cunningham demonstrated why he is heading into the summer with such high expectations, going 3-for-5 with a run, two RBI, and a walk, as Jacksonville State easily defeated Troy 14-6. The freshman center fielder is second on his team with a .366 batting average and should make a run for conference freshman of the year.

New Orleans falls to Jackson State 10-7
Jim McGonigle pitched well enough to win, but the bullpen struggled as the Privateers fell to Jackson State. McGonigle allowed four runs in 4.2 innings and struck out three, as the loss put him at 1-2 for the season.
