Bryan/College Station, Texas (June 20, 2017)-A wise man once said that ‘the best things in life never come easy.’ That man Tuesday night was Zach Taylor on the Bombers’ radio broadcast, as it took 11-innings but the Bombers secured the victory in a 1-0 pitchers’ duel over the Texas Marshals.
The zeros traded back and forth between Miguel Ausua and Jeremy Hammer as each went 6+ innings in their scoreless starts. They were then followed by the outstanding relievers such as Brandon Ivey, Reid Morgan, and Phillip Kunsa.
Though the pitching was incredible, both offenses had opporunities to break the scoreless tie, but neither lineup could convert with runners in scoring position. That is, until the 11th.
After 2 straight innings of having a runner at 3rd and 90-feet from ending the game, the Bombers got Thomas Jeffries over to 3rd, following his single, with 1 out. Then the pinch hitter Chase Calabuig, sent one into deep left field that dropped in to score the only run of the night, ending things in the 11th inning and completing the sweep of the Marshals.
With the win and a Cane Cutters loss, the Bombers now have their largest lead of the 2017 season at 4 games over both the Generals and Cane Cutters.
The Bombers face Acadiana on Friday night as they look to continue their winning ways. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and you can catch the pre-game show starting at 6:45pm all on Willy 1550, and radioaggieland.com.
