Bombers Split Double-Header with Tomcats

Weimar, TX (July 29, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers split their double-header with the Texas Tomcats Thursday night, losing the first game 12-3 and winning the second 2-1. With the split the Bombers maintain their first place position in the second half of the Texas Collegiate League standings.

In the first game the Tomcats used a first inning two out home run to claim an early 2-0 lead. The Bombers fought back though, scoring two in the second as Josh McElroy and Cameron Dullnig both scored leveling the score at 2-2. The Tomcats struck again though, adding five in the third and fifth to extend their lead to 12-2. In the seventh and final inning Isaac Nuti scored on a two-out Brennyn Smith double, but the Bombers were held right there, dropping game one 12-3.

The second game proved to be a pitchers duel. In the third inning, Justin Padron walked, advanced on a balk, and then on a passed ball before being driven in by a John Cannon RBI single. Three batters later Nuti brought Cannon home on a sacrifice fly, giving the Bombers a 2-0 lead. The Tomcats scored one in the bottom of the third, but the combination of Levi Saenz, Cameron Dullnig, and closer Matt Passauer shut the door on the Tomcats hopes, earning the Bombers a 2-1 victory.

The Bombers will have the day off tomorrow before returning to action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Kids Free Saturday for the first game of a three game home stand.
